Who says practicality has to be boring? With the Sophia bunk bed, you get all the saved space of a bunk bed, but with the charming fun of a dollhouse.

We’ve created the Sophia Bunk Bed using the traditional bed-over-bed bunk bed design. You can order the Sophia bed with a twin, full, or queen mattress in the lower bunk. The upper level remains a twin for all three options. If you order a twin or a full, the Sophia retains its bed-over-bed design. However, if you order a queen on bottom, the Sophia becomes a perpendicular bunk bed, like most of our other designs (see our Dollhouse Loft Bed for an example of this shape).

The Sophia shape is created by one wall with a gridded window and shutters. Along the top of the wall we’ve run a basic trim. The loft area is open to the ceiling, allowing for plenty of light to get in to your little one. The lower level is closed in on three sides. The foot (or head) wall of the lower bed on the standard design has cubby ladder foot holes cut into it.

Kids access the upper bunk on the standard model by climbing the cubby-hole ladder. You can see this ladder cut into the walls in our gallery pictures, beneath the lean-to-ladders. If you don’t want a cubby hole ladder, you can ask for the optional lean-to ladder, seen in the gallery pictures. Another option we offer on the Sophia is a full staircase to the upper level. We can give this staircase paneled railings, spindled railings, or faux spindled railings. If you order the Sophia with a staircase, you also have the option of adding four drawers beneath these stairs for storage.

It’s also possible for us to add a slide onto the other side of the Sophia bed. We can add a slide a Sophia of any size, and with any entrance option listed above. If you order a slide, you can add on a set of two open shelves built beneath the slide.

For an extra touch of charm, you can also add a picket fence to the lower level area.

The small footprint of the Sophia makes it excellent for just about any room. We can easily flip the design to fit your space, and we can also add or remove features. If you’ve been inspired by the Sophia, and are interested in designing your own bed, please see our Custom Designs page.

The standard Sophia comes unpainted, making it an excellent project for you to share with your family. However we also offer base and hand-painting. A base painted Sophia includes two colors, one for the walls and another for the shutters and trim. Hand-painting is entirely up to you. The color choices on the Sophia are entirely up to you!.
